We
are situated in the ancient market town of Ulverston, on the fringe
of the Lake District (Windermere 8 miles and Coniston 10 miles), and
also within easy reach of the Yorkshire Dales - 90 minutes
drive through beautiful country. We are also within easy reach of the
thriving second city of England: Manchester is just 90 minutes
drive away.
St Mary's Mount is situated in a quiet part of town, just below the
famous Hoad Monument, with fabulous views over Morecambe Bay and Ulverston.
If it is access to the numerous old world pubs and restaurants Ulverston
has to offer that you require, then the centre of the town (the Market
Square) is an easy five minutes walk.
Food has always played an important part in our lives: Marion was
a domestic science teacher for many years and also ran her own restaurant
in Ulverston. We believe in freshly-cooked foods made from the
finest ingredients, preferably organic and local. Even the jams and marmalade
you will enjoy at breakfast are home made. All tastes, including
vegetarian, can be catered for. And if, after a hard days sight-seeing
you fancy a night in, in front of the fire in our restful lounge, then
we can also provide evening meals too.
Our accommodation has a warm, homely and relaxed atmosphere. The
furnishings are mainly antique, except in the bathrooms where everything
is up to date and is meant to pamper: with jacuzzis and/or power showers
in the en-suite bathrooms. All rooms have views, either over Morecambe
Bay and Ulverston, or of our private gardens. There is also a large
conservatory to relax in, which has views over the Bay.
